Who doesn't love a good dessert.

This week it was my turn!  Like I said to the students, even though I stand up in front of them talking every day, giving the speech still made me nervous - but I did it! I've learnt the best thing to write a speech about is something I know a lot about.  That way I don't need to spend a lot of time researching - all my time and energy can go into writing and practicing the delivery (the presenting) of my speech. Once I shared my speech, the students and I looked at the different things I included to help make it persuasive, so they can then use some of those things in their own writing. Check my speech out below - defintely a topic I know lots about! Desserts should be eaten every day Apple crumble with custard, Goody-goody gumdrop ice cream, hot fudge pudding dripping with chocolate sauce - who doesn’t love a great dessert?  I am here today to convince you all, especially you adults, that desserts should be eaten every day. Warming up for Speeches

It's getting closer to that time of year - Speeches! Over this term we are making sure we include a lot of chances for us to speak up and share our thoughts and ideas with the class.  This is giving us a great chance to step out of our comfort zone as well as an opportunity to practice speaking clearly and with volume.  Some of the games we are playing include Draft Dictionary (shown in the pic) and Table Talk Cards - all things that could be done at home. We've also talked about the feelings we can have as speech day gets closer.  I remember feeling so nervous when I was this age.  It's ok to feel like this and together we can make this an enjoyable experience.  It's defintely not something any of us need to worry about and I have asked the kids to talk to me if they are feeling like this.  We also have a number of students super-excited and determined to try and make it to finals.  Exciting stuff! Over the coming weeks we are working towards writing our speeches in

My name is Deb and I am the teacher of the most amazing group of kids.  They are a caring, kind and funny bunch of 31 young people from all sorts of different backgrounds and cultures. The reason I wanted to set up this blog is so I can share the fantastic things they achieve.  The writing, the art and the ideas they come up with blows my mind so I want to share it so it blows yours too. Along with sharing their creations I will also include other things that I am sure will inspire them. These 31 authors love using the work of other authors to inspire their own work, so what better place to share these than here. Enjoy - you really do need to check this out!
